Solar energy summit opens in Datong

The China International Solar Energy Summit was convened on Oct 27 in Datong. Sponsored by the National Energy Administration (NEA) and organized by the Datong municipal government, the summit was themed “Innovation and Sustainable Development”.

More than 400 experts, scholars and corporate representatives participated in the summit. Some delivered keynote speeches on innovation and industry applications, in addition to discussing ways to create a better environment for the solar energy industry.

Relative central government municipal officials attended the summit, including Wu Guihui, chief engineer of the National Energy Administration (NEA); Gu Jun, deputy director of NEA’s International Division; and Liang Zhipeng, deputy director of NEA’s New Energy and Renewable Energy Division.

On behalf of the Datong municipal government, Mayor Geng Yanbo and vice-mayors Cao Xuecheng and Cao Huibin also attended the summit.

As a renewable energy widely distributed in the world, solar energy has become increasingly valued for its superior cleanliness, safety and sustainability. However, with the fast development of industry and international trade, the solar energy industry is facing many dilemmas. It is urgent for the industry to focus on improving competitiveness and development to overcome these issues.

Issues concerning innovation in the solar energy industry, breakthroughs in solar energy development, the diversified application and technical revolutions in solar energy, and the expansion of international cooperation were discussed at the conference.

The participants agreed to works towards creating a better industry environment, expanding international cooperation, diversifying solar energy use, and strengthening technical innovation.
