Hoku Solar to build 7.2MW solar farm in Hawaii

Hoku Solar has inked a deal to design and build the 7.2MW Port Allen Solar Farm on the island of Kaua'i, Hawaii.

The firm, a subsidiary of Hoku Corporation, will partner with electrical contractors Helix Electric to construct the photovoltaic facility to be placed in service in late 2012.

Hoku Corporation chief executive officer Scott Paul said the project marks another important milestone along Hawaii's path toward clean energy.

"We have invested heavily in Hoku Solar's utility-scale PV capabilities over the last several years, and we look forward to bringing our local team and expertise to bear on this flagship project," said Paul.

Under a 20-year agreement, the power generated by the facility will be sold by Honolulu-based company Alexander & Baldwin to the island's electrical utility company, Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative.
