China releases first new energy plan for 2015

China Knowledge quoted Beijing Development and Reform Commission or BDRC has released its first new and renewable energy plan, including replacing 5.5 million tons of standard coal for up to 2015 accounting for around 6% of the estimated electricity consumption in the city.


According to the plan, Beijing aims to reap CNY 100 billion in revenue in new and renewable energy industry in 2015. In the same year, between six and eight research and development centers, two testing centers and five to ten institutes for technology consulting and talent training would also be built in the city to boost the new and renewable energy market.


BDRC said major new and renewable energy projects include a 31 megawatt photovoltaic project near the city Badaling Great Wall a 20-MW ground mounted solar power project in Miyu District, a 41-MW PV project in Yizhuang and a 10 MW PV demonstration project in Zhongguancun.


At the end of 2010, Beijing electricity generated from new and renewable energy facilities was equivalent to consuming 2.23 million tonnes of standard coal reflecting a jump of 2.7 folds from that in 2005 with an average annual growth of 30.1% and bringing the city's output value in new and renewable energy industry to CNY 40 billion last year.
