Green Bay City Council OKs Oneida Biomass Energy Plant

The Green Bay City Council approved a proposed biomass gasification plant in the city limits Tuesday night.

The energy plant to convert municipal garbage into electricity would be built on the city's far west side, on Hurlbut Street in the I-43 Industrial Park.

The Oneida Seven Generations Corporation recently bought the land after a public outcry over a proposed location in Ashwaubenon had them looking for other options.

The $23 million plant still needs approval from the EPA, DNR, and Department of Energy.

Seven Generations hopes to start construction as soon as possible.
