RMT Inc., a renewable energy subsidiary of Madison-based Alliant Energy Corp., has begun construction of the Granite Reliable wind farm in New Hampshire, which will become that state's largest wind farm.
RMT of Madison said in a press release Wednesday the 99-megawatt project in Coos County will have the capacity to power approximately 25,000 homes annually. RMT is providing engineering, procurement, and construction of the civil and electrical infrastructure, including the installation of 33 Vestas Wind Systems A/S wind turbines. It is expected to commence commercial operation by the end of the year.
RMT was awarded the contract by Granite Reliable Power LLC, a partnership of Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. and Freshet Wind Energy LLC. Brookfield Renewable purchased majority ownership of the project in December. The previous majority owner, Essex, Conn.-based Noble Environmental Power, picked RMT for the construction work in spring 2010. RMT did not disclose a value for the work.
