CLP wins approval to build $864 mln wind project

Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Department has approved CLP Power Holdings' (0002.HK) HK$6.7 billion ($864 million) offshore wind power project.

The project, with a capacity of up to 200 megawatts (MW), can power 80,000 households and account for 1 percent of the city's electricity demand, the company's spokeswoman said.

CLP is building the project with British renewable energy company, Wind Prospect.

CLP targets to begin project construction after completing a feasibility study by 2011.

The wind project will be built 10 kilometres off Clear Water Bay and involve up to 67 wind turbines installed on seabed 30 meters underwater.
