New solar power system at Majilite

Majilite Corp., a materials manufacturer and distributor and subsidiary of Meridian Industries Inc., is nearing the completion of a 400 kilowatt thin-film solar power system at its Dracut manufacturing facility.

The photovoltaic installation is being executed by Constellation Energy Group Inc.’s Projects & Services Group, which will also own the energy assets and sell the

electricity generated on site to Majilite under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The system will feature 2,490 thin film solar panels, each capable of generating 136 watts, made by United Solar Ovonic LLC of Michigan and applied directly to the facility’s rooftops. Constellation Energy’s Projects and Services Group estimates the project will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 208 metric tons annually and supply 16 percent of the energy needed to run the facility.

According to officials, the system is expected to be completed by the end of this month. Financial details of the agreement were not provided.

Majilite is a manufacturer and distributor of high-performance specialty materials used in the commercial, consumer and industrial applications. The company is best known for the creation of Nytek, a microfiber product used in clothing and other end products. The company employs 140 people at its Dracut facility.
