Chubu Electric Shuts Hamaoka No. 4 Nuclear Reactor After Fault

Chubu Electric Power Co., Japan's third-largest power producer, shut its Hamaoka No. 4 reactor, as equipment to clean cooling water closed down last night following an alarm.

Chubu Electric idled the reactor in Shizuoka prefecture, southwestern Tokyo, at 9:57 p.m. local time yesterday, the company said in a statement on Web site. There were no radiation leaks, it said.

The Nagoya-based utility restarted the 1,137-megawatt reactor after scheduled maintenance on Nov. 14.
