British Energy Starts Hartlepool, Hunterston Nuclear Units

British Energy Group Plc, whose nuclear reactors can produce about a fifth of the U.K.'s electricity, started Unit 2 at Hartlepool and Unit 8 at its Hunterston B power plant.

The 605-megawatt Hartlepool unit, off line since Oct. 10 because of electrical problems, began production on Oct. 13, according to data on a Web site run by National Grid Plc.

Hunterston B-8, which has a maximum capacity of 600 megawatts, was turned on yesterday after halting on Oct. 4 because of power-supply problems. The reactor was running at a reduced capacity of 218 megawatts as of 8 a.m. today, the Web site showed.
