Renewable energy project gets new manager at Consumers Energy

Consumers Energy has named Bruce Rasher manager of the Michigan utility’s renewable-energy portfolio program.

Jackson-based Consumers Energy, a unit of CMS Energy, said Rasher will be responsible for coordinating the utility’s contacts with renewable-energy developers, identifying opportunities to build up current renewable-energy projects and pursuing business development opportunities in the field.

Last month, Michigan unveiled its plan to advance the study and research of renewable energy by recommending that the state set a goal of having 10% of the state’s electric generation come from renewable sources — wind, solar, geothermal or biomass — by 2015. There are currently 24 states with renewable-energy portfolio standards.

Consumers Energy started a renewable-energy project called Green Generation in September 2005. The program allows customers to pay a premium to get all of some of their power from renewable sources.

Rasher will report to Jack Hanson, vice president of generation engineering and services.
