CN MIIT Aims to Reduce PV Manufacturing Projects That Solely Expand Capacity; CPIA Estimates YoY Drop in 2025 New PV Installations

Li Ting, Director of the Electronic Information Department of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said at the 2024 Photovoltaic Industry Development Review and 2025 Outlook Seminar that in order to address structural contradictions in key industries, the MIIT is striving to reduce photovoltaic (PV) projects that solely expand manufacturing capacity by guiding localities to adapt to local conditions and reasonably plan PV projects.

Regarding the development of the PV market in 2025, Wang Bohua, Honorary President of the China Photovoltaic Industry Association (CPIA), noted at the same event that last year’s new PV installations reached 277.57GW, up 28.3% YoY.

In Wang’s estimate, this year’s new PV installations in China will range from 215GW to 255GW, which suggests a potential YoY decline of 8.13-22.54%.
