France’s Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has been selected to install a 108-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) farm in Ireland on behalf of Irish utility service provider Bord na Mona and domestic energy company ESB.

The Paris-based renewables company will act as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, it said on Thursday.

The Timahoe North solar farm will be built near the town of Timahoe in County Kildare and is expected to become fully operational by the end of next year. Its annual output will be enough to cover the consumption of around 61,500 residents.

The project will be executed through a joint venture of ESB and Bord na Mona. It will be the first large-scale PV park to be installed under the companies’ plan to deploy 500 MW of solar capacity on Bord na Mona lands.

Ireland aims to lift the share of renewables electricity up to 80% by 2030 and will allocate around 15.5 GW of wind and solar capacity through an auction scheme to back the goal.
