Montgomery Co. celebrates solar project expansion

Source:wsls.com

On Wednesday, a West Virginia-based energy company officially expanded into Montgomery County.

Solar Holler hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate its first residential solar project here in the Commonwealth.

We’re told the company’s mission is to bring clean and affordable energy to all Appalachians while empowering people and revitalizing local economies.

The company’s president and founder told 10 News some homes that switch to solar energy could save nearly $60,000 dollars on utilities.

“People have been hurting. People need relief on their utility bills, and beyond that, our entire mission all along is to make sure that the kids who grow up in Appalachian towns have a chance to get jobs, and have a chance to stay at home.”

Conant added the average system costs between $30,000 and $40,000, but over time, it pays itself off.

According to their website, there are a couple of different ways to go about getting a solar system: Buy a system, or lease a system. You can also request a free assessment for a system to determine if solar will work for you.

Additionally, for the next 10 years, the Solar Tax Credit will be 30%, according to Solar Holler.
