Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd has received the letter of award to build a 966 MW hybrid RE project (comprising 379 MW solar and 587 MW wind) for captive consumption by Tata Steel.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd has received a Letter of Award to set up a 966 MW hybrid renewable power project for round-the-clock (RTC) supply to Tata Steel. It will implement the project through its arm TP Vardhaman Surya, with Tata Steel owning a 26% equity.

“This is one of the biggest industrial RTC power PPAs under group captive segment in the country,” stated the company.

The project will comprise 379 MW of solar and 587 MW wind power generation capacity.

Tata Steel has an annual crude steel capacity of 35 million tonnes and is one of the world’s most geographically diversified steel producers. As Tata Steel targets net-zero by 2045, the hybrid RE project will fulfill a significant part of its green energy requirements in India, saving 23,89,160 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

The project is scheduled for commissioning by June 1, 2025.

With this win, TPREL’s total renewables capacity reaches 7,756 MW with an installed capacity of 4,059 MW (3,107 MW solar and 952 MW wind) and 3,697 MW under various stages of implementation.
