Ingeteam announced it has supplied its battery inverters for the Johanna 1 & 2 energy storage projects in Santa Ana, California. This 20-MW / 80-MWh grid-connected project, owned and operated by Hecate Energy, was built by Mitsubishi Power.

The Johanna ESS features LFP batteries to accumulate four hours of energy. It is part of a critical project integrating renewable energy into the California Independent System Operator grid to validate distributed energy resources (DER) capacity assumptions, study grid requirements and develop technology expertise for broad-scale DER implementation. The multiyear study will determine whether clean distributed energy can offset the increasing demand for electricity in central Orange County.

“We are very happy for having collaborated with Hecate Energy and Mitsubishi Power in this milestone project,” said Nohra Nasr, VP and general manager of Solar PV and BESS at Ingeteam Inc. “They have a deep experience in utility-scale energy storage projects, so we are delighted to partner with them with our long experience in the power electronics sector to support California’s efforts to move forward with clean energy technologies”.

For this project, Ingeteam supplied 20 units of INGECON SUN STORAGE 1245TL U B480 inverters. These inverters feature 1,500-VDC technology and will develop grid support functionalities, such as frequency regulation.
