Renewable energy developer Belectric, a unit of German utility Innogy, has commissioned its so far largest solar power project, a 250MW array in the Indian state of Karnataka.

The solar farm is also one of India’s largest and was built on behalf of the solar power unit of Finnish utility Fortum.

“India is not only one of the largest PV markets but also one of the most challenging. That’s why we are particularly proud that we have delivered a new 250 MW-AC solar plant for our customer Fortum in time and quality,” said Ingo Alphéus, chief executive of Belectric Solar & Battery.

“It is also by far the largest project we have commissioned in the history of our company. This underpins our strong position as a system integrator and general contractor for utility-scale ground-mounted PV.”

Belectric carried out the construction and commissioning work and will provide operation and maintenance services (O&M) to the plant.

With the Karnataka array, Belectric has been involved in the development of more than 750MW in solar capacity in India. The company said it will soon break through the 1GW barrier of installed capacity on the sub-continent.
