Solarpack’s 123-MW PV park starts producing power in Chile

The 123-MW Granja solar photovoltaic (PV) farm has started injecting electricity into the Chilean grid on March 2, its owner Spain’s Solarpack Corporacion Tecnologica SA (BME:SPK) announced today.

The project involved an investment of more than USD 110 million (EUR 96.3m), with long-term non-recourse financing of up to USD 91 million provided by Germany’s KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH.

The Granja solar farm is located in the middle of the Atacama Desert in the Chilean region of Tarapaca. The facility’s output will be sold to Chilean distribution companies under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), which were awarded to Solarpack in a power supply tender in 2015.

Granja has been connected ten months ahead of January 1, 2021, the date the PPAs were slated to enter into force, the Spanish solar company said.

With the new solar farm online, Solarpack reaches 181 MW of total operating capacity in Chile.
