State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) plans to deploy 1.5 GW of decentralized solar power plants across India by the end of March next year, according to a report in The Economic Times newspaper.

Quoting Saurabh Kumar, managing director of the EESL, the newspaper reported none of the plants will have a generation capacity of more than 10 MW.

The EESL is already working on 800 MW of distributed solar capacity in Maharashtra – including 100 MW of small scale agricultural feeder systems – and a further 113 MW in Rajasthan.

The state entity has a strong pipeline of solar projects including grid-connected PV pump sets, solar rooftops and solar water pumping systems for member states of the India-based International Solar Alliance of tropical nations.
