Having bagged a cumulative 9 MW, Maheswari Mining & Energy has emerged as the biggest winner in Solar Energy Corporation of India’s 97.5 MW rooftop solar tender for government buildings across India.

Other major winners include SunSource (8 MW), Ampsolar and Varp (5 MW each), and Hero Future and HFM Solar Power (4.075 MW each).

SECI, on behalf of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), invited bids in August last year to develop 97.5 MW of grid-connected solar projects on the vacant roofs of government-owned buildings.

The tendered capacity included 12.5 MW of CAPEX (capital expenditures provided by the rooftop owner) and 85 MW of RESCO (capital expenditures covered by the installer) projects.

The auction saw 69.075 MW allotted under RESCO (with individual plants of 1 KWp to 500 KWp) and 28.425 MW under CAPEX (including 2.5 MW from small plants below 25 KW and the rest 25.925 MW from plants between 25 KWp to 500 KWp )—making up a total of 97.5 MW.

RESCO projects for special category states and UTs (Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and North Eastern states) have been awarded at a tariff of Rs 1.899/KWh against tariff ceiling of Rs 2.5.

For general category states, the winning tariffs are Rs 3.250/KWh for zone 1 (Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu), Rs 3.3 for zone 2 (Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Puducherry (Pondicherry), Telangana, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Madhya Pradesh), and Rs 3.33 for zone 3 (Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal)—against tariff ceiling of Rs 3.5, Rs 3.64 and Rs 3.95, respectively.
