Germany expands reach with acquisition of UK renewable energy specialist

Germany's TÜV SÜD has acquired UK wind power consultancy Project Management Support Services Limited (PMSS), continuing its growth strategy in the field of renewable energy.
"We are convinced of the rapid expansion of renewable energy worldwide and expect growth to be most pronounced in wind power and photovoltaics," said Karsten Xander, Member of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG. In 2011, TÜV SÜD opened its Offshore Wind Services department in Hamburg. In acquiring PMSS, which has 70 staff and a 2011 turnover of almost €8mn, the international testing and certification company is complementing its portfolio of renewable energy solutions further.

"The acquisition of PMSS further strengthens our position in the UK, Germany, the Benelux countries and the USA", adds Dr Boris Gehring, Head of TÜV SÜD's Industry Service Division. "This provides us with an excellent basis for tapping into further international markets."

PMSS has subsidiaries in Germany and the US. Its range of services covers project development and realization, due diligence reviews, planning and control of occupational health & safety, and environmental protection measures for wind power – particularly offshore wind farms. Linking this special expertise with TÜV SÜD's know-how and experience throughout the energy industry and the company's international network creates a global leading supplier of knowledge services for wind power projects.
