enXco purchases biomass project from Southeast Renewable Energy

Renewable energy developer, enXco, has completed the acquisition of the Pinelands biomass project from Southeast Renewable Energy (SRE) in the US state of South Carolina.

The project consists of two 17.8MW generating facilities located in Allendale and Dorchester counties, both of which are currently under construction. The facilities are expected to be fully operational by the end of 2013.

Tristan Grimbert, enXco president and CEO, said: "Utilising wood waste to generate electricity is a proven renewable technology that complements enXco's robust portfolio of wind, solar and biogas projects in North America."

Electricity generated will be sold to power utility company Santee Cooper under 30-year power purchase agreements, enXco said.

The plants use stoker boilers supplied by Factory Sales Engineering and a steam turbine generator supplied by General Electric.

Jim Schretter, enXco vice president of east region, said: "enXco is pleased to work with Santee Cooper and SRE on this excellent opportunity to use waste wood to produce economically attractive renewable energy."

Bibb Engineers is the engineer and Summit Industrial Construction is the general contractor on the project.
