US-based renewables firm Enfinity Global has secured agreements for 1.8 TWh of electricity supply in Italy under the country’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism dedicated to helping high-consumption industries stabilise their energy costs.
The company said on Wednesday it had signed the agreements with companies including steelmaker Feralpi, oil refiner ISAB, electrical equipment maker De Angeli and power and gas supplier Magis Energia. These off-take arrangements will enable Enfinity to develop around 120 MW of new solar photovoltaic capacity across Italy.
The solar farms are expected to be connected to the grid by the second quarter of 2029 and are intended to provide industrial customers with more predictable electricity prices, amid ongoing volatility in energy markets.
Italy’s Energy Release 2.0 scheme, promoted by energy service manager GSE, links electricity demand from large industrial consumers with the development of new renewable energy capacity, allowing companies to secure dedicated power volumes in exchange for backing new projects.
Enfinity has an extensive pipeline in Italy, totalling around 8.5 GW of solar and energy storage projects. It currently operates 345 MW of capacity in the country, with a further 460 MW under construction.
Since entering the Italian market, Enfinity has also secured power purchase agreements covering about 805 MW, it added.
